The Nashville city council denied Morgan Wallen’s bar a permit to hang a flashy neon sign advertising ‘This Bar & Tennessee Kitchen’—now the opening has been delayed.
Morgan Wallen and TC Restaurant Group are missing out on a lucrative Memorial Day weekend opening for the new Nashville venue. A spokesperson for TC Restaurant Group says they’re working with the Metro to open the bar and the delayed opening had nothing to do with the denial of a new flashy neon sign to advertise the venue.
“This is not related to the Metro Council’s denial of the aerial encroachment from he sign. TC Restaurant Group continues to work with Metro,” a spokesperson for the group says. “They are working through all of the normal complexities of starting a new business. All parties involved are working together and they look forward to opening soon.”
TC Restaurant Group’s statement released on Sunday says the venue needs more time before opening. “We’re proud of our team who has worked tirelessly to prepare Morgan Wallen’s This Bar & Tennessee Kitchen for opening. The ground-up construction of a six-story venue launching with hundreds of team members is a tremendous amount of work and a complex process.”
“When we open, we want ‘This Bar’ to be an exceptional experience for guests. Unfortunately, the process requires more time, and we are not able to open and provide that experience this Memorial Day weekend. Rest assured it will be well worth the wait. We look forward to welcoming guests soon.”
Last week the Nashville city council rejected a bid to install a sign for the bar, with council members citing Morgan Wallen’s past behavior as the culprit. Wallen’s use of racial slurs and throwing a chair from a rooftop nearly striking two police officers were listed as the primary reasons to reject the measure. Around 30 council members voted no, four abstained, and three voted yes to allow the sign.
Morgan Wallen took to X/Twitter to apologize for his recent behavior saying, “I’m not proud of my behavior, and I accept responsibility. I have the utmost respect for the officers working every day to keep us all safe.” His charges include three felony counts of reckless endangerment and one misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct.
